Have you done your taxes? What are you waiting for?

I'll keep this one short:

Have you done your taxes yet?

If you have, great!

If you have not, what are you waiting for?  Don't let this be another one of those late-night cram sessions we all did in college.  Do it now.

Taxes - how difficult are they?

Depending on your financial situation, most people have taxes that not are very difficult.

It's a matter of filling in the blanks.

Most software packages have too many topics for each person, and can be very stressful when it's not clear what the computer is asking.

If you insist on having a professional do your taxes, check them out ahead of time and shop around.  You'd be surprised how little a freelance CPA will do it for when compared with one at a national brand.

Need to make a quick buck? Become a human guinea pig

It sounds crazy, but I've done it.

Near Fargo, ND, is a place called Cetero Research.  They test medications on people.

I didn't grow any extra arms or have my hair suddenly turn green--nor did I see it on others--so the tests are relatively safe.

Check it out in your area.  I've made anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand.

The only drawback was that they didn't take any taxes out, so you had to be extra careful and figure out the tax right.  It was almost like one was self-employed.  Save at least 25% of what you take in, which is a rule of thumb experts say, so that way you'll have enough to pay Uncle Sam.

5 things to do with your tax refund

Got a large tax refund?  Consider doing one of these 5 things with the extra money:

1)  use it to reduce your debt.

2)  save it to be used for a car

3)  start a college education fund for your children

4)  invest it

5)  save it in your rainy day fund

Don't treat the tax refund like you won the lottery.  Put it to good use.

If it's quite large, you may want to consider adjusting your withholdings--no need to give the government the money, even if you're going to get it back.  Your overall paycheck will be slightly bigger instead of one lump sum tax refund.
